I remember all the buzz and confusion at Festival De Cannes  last year when I was there for SALT AND SILICONE.  At the time it seemed odd to have Gosling be in what appeared to be a race car film at first. I could not get into the fesitval screening because the lines piled up hours in advance but when I finally got to LA and watched it at the Arclight I was riveted by DRIVE, my top film of 2011!

After a successful year of festivals and awards SALT AND SILICONE has qualified for the 2012 Academy Awards and we are having a screening and reception in Los Angeles to celebrate.

Here are the details:

Screening and Reception for short film Academy Qualifier SALT AND SILICONE, 7:30pm, October 19th, 2011 at Aidikoff screening room (150 S Rodeo Dr # 140, Beverly Hills, CA 90212-2411, 310-274-0866).

There is a parking structure attached to the screening room. SALT AND SILICONE will screen off a 35MM print. Complimentary Dessert and Wine.

I am looking forward to attending this prestigious festival and the amazing film line up at Cannes which includes Woody Allen's MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, Terrence Malick's THE TREE OF LIFE and Gus Van Sant's RESTLESS !

The Cannes Film Festival is from May 11-22, 2011.  The festival president is Robert De Niro. The Short Film jury will be presided over by Michele Gondry.

SALT AND SILICONE Limited Theatrical Release at Sunset 5 April 1, 2, 3 at Laemmle Sunset 5

SALT AND SILICONE will have a limited theatrical release April 1, 2, 3, 2011 at Laemmle Sunset 5 Theater off Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles, CA. Showtimes are 12pm and 12:30pm.  The release is part of the AMPAS qualification process for Best Short Film Academy Awards and exposure for SALT AND SILICONE.  Laemmle Sunset 5 is the premiere art house theater in Los Angeles, CA.
We will screen off 35mm.

This will be the Portland Premiere for SALT AND SILICONE which was shot in Portland and stars local actors  Warren Pereira, Katie O' Grady and Ethan Atkinson, along with Los Angeles actress Rachel Myers.

SALT AND SILICONE is written and directed by Portland based Writer/Director Warren Pereira and is produced by Portland based producers Aaron Kirk Douglas, CK Lichtenstein II, and Leslie Kobyluck. Director of Photography is Emmy Award winning and also Portland based Jeff Streich.

SALT AND SILICONE IS AN OFFICIAL SELECTION and will have its US PREMIERE at The 2010 LOS ANGELES COMEDY FESTIVAL:

Lawrin Salazar -- Director of the LA COMEDY FESTIVAL -- called to let me know that SALT AND SILICONE is and Official Selection at the 2010 LA COMEDY FESTIVAL November 4th-6th at the ACME THEATER in LA.

Salazar complemented the film on its comprehensive execution saying that the direction, production design and acting quality "were all done very well."  So thank you actors Katie O' Grady, Rachel Myers, and Ethan Atkinson for your performance!

The LA COMEDY FESTIVAL is in its 8th year and is the largest comedy festival in the US and features comedic films and live comedic performances. This will be the Official US Premiere for SALT AND SILICONE.

SALT AND SILICONE Official Selection at 2010 HDFEST

SALT AND SILICONE is an Official Selection at the 2010 HD FEST which will take place in December in Portland, OR:

 The HDFEST (http://www.hdfest.com/festival.html) was established in 2000 to display the quality of films acquired and finished in HD and to promote HD Cinema.

I am sure that SALT AND SILICONE's Emmy Award Winning Director of Photography Jeff Streich and Academy Award Winning Color Lab EFILM are primarily responsible for our selection in the HDFEST. Streich had to do the very difficult -- move his camera from an EXT dark street location with one hard key light into an INT. brightly lit lighting store all in a single moving shot --  but was still able to maintain a well exposed, fully saturated, and clean image.

EFILM's color grading team gave our SALT AND SILICONE HD footage a truly rich, complexly colored, cinematic look, all while performing red abatement in the street scenes (which we had from Portland's reddish street lights) and while under my direction to give each episode (per Vex's changing feelings on breast implants) a distinct look.  EFILM took our Uncompressed 4:2:2 YUV HD footage and pulled it into an Uncompressed 4:4:4 RGB HD environment and added color from this Uncompressed place which is the way to do it! HDFEST will project off HDCAM or similar so image quality and sound for the screening should be good.

SALT AND SILICONE is an Official Selection at the 2010 EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL who announced their schedule today:


SALT AND SILICONE will have its Canadian Premiere at the 2010 Edmonton International Film Festival screening in the SHORTS ON THE EDGE (Sept 29th, 4:45PM) block with four other fine short films including the 2010 Academy Award Winning Short Film THE NEW TENANTS and the 2010 Academy Award Nominated Short Film MIRACLE FISH. This will be strong visibility for SALT AND SILICONE and should make for a powerful block of short films at Edmonton!

*** SALT AND SILICONE will be screening in Edmonton in a "work in progress" condition because the final touches to the  color grading and audio mix has yet to be done; however this "work in progress" version is pretty damn polished!

SALT AND SILICONE will have a "Work in Progress" screening at the EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL Sept 24th-Oct2nd 2010 regarded as a one of the biggest "discovery" festivals in Canada. 

The schedule will be up here http://www.edmontonfilmfest.com/ shortly and they project on HDCAM so SAS should look great and sound great (although only in 20-bit Stereo since it is HDCAM not HDCAMSR). BLU RAY was another projection option which would have 5.1 24-Bit Audio capabilites but I have not been able to make a BLU RAY yet for SALT AND SILICONE.

LOVELY COFFEE Limited Theatrical Release Sunset 5

LOS ANGELES -- Writer/Director Warren Pereira’s award-winning short film LOVELY COFFEE (26 min.) will have a limited three day theatrical release at the Laemmle Sunset 5 Theatre (8000 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, CA 90046). The film will screen off a 35mm print twice a day on June 18^th, 19^th and 20^th at 12:15pm and 12:55pm. This limited theatrical release will be the official Best Short Film Academy Award Qualifying Run for LOVELY COFFEE.

LOVELY COFFEE is a romantic comedy that satirizes a group of cocky but untalented but filmmakers and actors. Hello Cast and Crew members,

Some of you have asked me for HD clips for your Reels. So, "Salt and Silicone", "Lovely Coffee", "Superhero Talent", "Who's Good Looking?", and "Lacking Lewis" clips are available as 1080p downloads at http://www.vimeo.com/warrenpereira/videos


Important Info for whoever is Editing your reel:

1. You will have to register with Vimeo to download -- takes 2 min. and is free. Or just get in on someone's Vimeo account for this download.
2. All videos are 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio 1080p MOV's and at 23.98p with the exception of Superhero Talent which is 1080p @ 29.97p. You will have to scale down to 16:9 Anamorphic 720*480p for SD DVD reels. For BLU-RAY and Online HD Reels just go straight across at 1080p. For your website downconvert as needed and maintain correct 1.78:1 aspect ratio.
3. Color and sound on these videos is the latest version and to keep it looking and sounding good I would keep the bit-rate as high as possible and maintain the Progressive frame rate. 
4. For Download go to Download Link on bottom right of each video and click on it. If that does not work I recommend right-clicking and "Save Target as..." or "Save Link as..." on the download video link. Then you should be able to save the MOV file to your computer.

If there is a specific 45 secs or less section you need for your reel, and it is not up on Vimeo, let me know and I will make it for you.
